AI@SCHOOL STUDENT CLUB:  THIRD ACTIVITY ‘EUROSTUDENTS NEWS: REAL NEWS FOR REAL PEOPLE’

October has just come to an end, and throughout this month several members of the AI@School Student Club have completed the third activity organised by the club to promote the values of the European Union. This time, building on the news stories featured in the second activity, the students have created a series of short English-language news videos, presented by them in the style of a television news programme.

Each video features two or three presenters taking turns, an introduction, a concise explanation of the news story and a question for the audience. They have all used a green-screen effect, a newsroom background and subtitles where appropriate. The final collection is part of EuroStudents News Trevenque: “Real News for Real People!”

Students have selected a current news story related to Europe, the European Union or an issue relevant to young people. They have researched their chosen stories using reliable sources and compared information to check the main facts. They have also used AI, when helpful, to understand complex information, organise their ideas and adapt the language to their English level. They then wrote a short news script in English, worked in pairs and rehearsed their pronunciation, pace and expression before recording their videos.

The topics covered have been very varied, ranging from EU countries facing disagreements over the Mercosur trade deal and European teams in the UEFA Nations League to safer social media for teenagers and DiscoverEU: Explore Europe by Train.

It has been a lot of hard work and a lengthy process, but also a very rewarding experience, resulting in an excellent outcome by our Student Club!
